wide variety of potential threats.
·
Network security
consists of the policies, processes and practices adopted to prevent, detect
and monitor unauthorized access, misuse, modification, or denial of a computer
network and network-accessible resources.
Types of
network security
1.
Network access
control (NAC)
2.
Application
security
3.
Antivirus and
anti-malware software
4.
E-mail
security
5.
Wireless security
Why do we
need it?
Network security is
important because it keeps sensitive data safe from cyber attacks and ensures
the network is usable and trustworthy.
Example
Many companies don’t allow
employees to use their personal devices to connect to their corporate networks.
This is a form of endpoint security because it prevents malicious software from
being transmitted from a personal device.
Network security
tool
These tools and
strategies are:
·
Firewall – block
all known attacks at the boundary of the network.
·
Reverse firewall
– for data loss protection.
·
Intrusion prevention
systems/SIEMs – catch anomalous behavior on the network that the firewall
missed.
